Deaths Due to External Causes Among Adolescents in Hong KongDepartment of Community and Family Medicine, University of Hong Kong, twwong{at}cuhk.edu.hk
The Nethersole School of Nursing Chinese University of Hong Kong The authors compared adolescent mortalities due to external causes in two 5-year periods (from 1986-1990 and 1996-2000) in Hong Kong. Leading external causes are traffic accidents and suicide. The mortality rate is comparatively low and has decreased significantly over time. Suicide deaths are, however, on the increase. Monitoring the changing trend is useful in setting public health priorities.
